1. Mahram Regulations for Female Pilgrims
The Ministry of Hajj & Umrah has updated regulations to facilitate female pilgrims from across the globe:
Women Aged 45 and Above
Can travel in women's group packages without a male Mahram. A No-Objection Letter from family/husband may be requested by travel agents for visa issuance.
Women Under 45 Years
Must travel accompanied by an eligible male Mahram. Relationship proof (Marriage Certificate or Passport entry listing husband's name) must be provided during visa application.
2. Ihram Rules for Women
Unlike men who wear two unstitched white towels, women enter Ihram in their regular modest attire:
- Permissible Clothing: Any loose, opaque Abaya or modest dress covering the body from head to ankle.
- Face & Hands: The face (Niqab) and hands (Gloves) must not be covered while in the state of Ihram. However, a loose veil hanging over the head without touching the skin is permitted by scholars.
- Hair Ritual (Taqsir): After completing Tawaf and Sa'i, women exit Ihram by trimming a small lock of hair (about 1–2 cm / finger-tip length) from the ends of their hair.
3. Visiting the Blessed Rawdah Mubarak (Madinah)
The Rawdah (Garden of Paradise) inside Masjid an-Nabawi has dedicated visiting slots for women:
